We're a small farm in the Annapolis Valley of Nova Scotia focused on making life more flavourful.

Specializing in ginger (fresh, dried, jams, candied, and more), we grow herbs and spices that are crafted into products that tantalize your taste buds.

Our commitment to high-quality local food is at the heart of the work we do. We use organic methods and a restoration agriculture approach to rebuild the soil of our 150-year-old farm.

Soup season is in full swing!
That means leek and potato soup, fish chowder, curried spinach and potato, and classic Vegi chowder around here! And they all start with a broth from our vegetable broth powder. 🤤

Looking back at 2025 has been pretty insightful this week.
We confirmed that our most popular items were the cat toys (we nerds love our cats!) and our vegetable broth powder... until we added up all the different ways we brought ginger to the Valley and HRM!
Unfortunately, we are discovering which products just aren't as popular. So we will be reducing some things, but plan to have them available through special orders and possibly a small farm stand!?! (stay tuned for more on that).
We had some big ups and downs this year. Like most farmers we felt the stress of climate change on a personal level and spent many days watching the smoke and wildfire maps, or hoping that the rain gauge would move overnight.
And as we look forward to 2026, we can be happy about the progress we made this year meeting so many more people at farmers markets, partnering with retailers to carry our vegetable broth powder, turning an unused hog barn into a ginger greenhouse, and working to set up some on-farm experiences for 2026. There is so much to look forward to!

As we've been harvesting the ginger, we have run into strange bulbs on some of the roots. It looks like those ginger plants that flowered over the summer are making babies! 👶🫚❤️

The angle of the sun makes the shade cloth unnecessary at this point in the season, so Jessica climbed up into the rafters to unpin the end directly over the growing beds. We are hoping to have a slightly less precarious method of laying down and removing the shade cloth next year!

I was joined in the garden with 2 helpers as the break in weather meant I could gather some late-season peppers and tomatoes. Ender kept his distance in the asparagus patch (the beautiful curling yellow fronds). But Firedrake, always the lover and finder of laps, insisted on helping more directly. 🤣

Checked on the rain gauge today after the past couple of rainy days! ☔ We've had 80mm of rain. Woohoo! 🎉. Let's keep that up until the ground freezes and we might not be in a deficit at the start of next spring 🌱.

Cindy's luffa is perfect because it is organic and biodegradable. The crunchy texture enhances our dried catnip and it holds onto the catnip scent longer than white polyfil so cats enjoy the toy (and humans enjoy watching them play) longer.

The flax is coming in, and this year, because of the drought and the clay soil up here, we are forced to cut it rather than pull it. 🫤. It no longer fits into the upper drying section of the barn, we have taken over the back part of the main floor, which means we get to open the giant fan that looks out over Blomidon.... Just imagine the view if it was a big picture window instead of the old hay-drying fan. 🥰

What happens when you loose track of a flat of garlic scapes you were planning on dehydrating? Apparently you end up getting mini garlic nibs! Ahh, they are so good! 😊.

We will have some @wolfvillefarmersmarket on Saturday if we don't eat them all first!

Scenes from the farm (that aren't weed pulling).

1. The flax is getting closer to harvest
2. Last of the lavender is coming in to dry in the dining room (a few bunches are left for our 2 markets this weekend!)
3. The black currants are looking massive this year! We might even have enough for preserves this fall....
4. Falcor has started visiting me in the garden while I weed. She respectfully stays off my lap in the shade.
5. Firedrake respects my lap as the best place to be, and insists on me taking breaks in the hammock. Especially on the really hot days.

Our ancient cherry tree has never produced like this for us! Usually the few fruits it does produce are taken by the birds or fall off before they fully ripen so we are thrilled to get to join in the feast this year.

Happy anniversary to two amazing, supportive parents. If you missed us last week, it's because 2 of us got to spend quality time with these two while one farmer had to manage the whole farm on her own.

This week we will be jumping right back into it with the Tuesday market @canaan.neighborhood , Thursday market @lunenburgfarmersmarket and the Saturday market @hfxbrewerymarket .

Come find us and we can discuss how being gone for only one week makes everything in the garden explode! We'll have scapes, haskaps, and fresh herbs. 🌱☺️❤️

It's Sandwich Sprinkle season! My go-to lunch these days is a simple hummus, lettuce, cheese and mayo sandwich dressed up with our Scotian Sandwich Sprinkle!

This week the lettuce is courtesy of @greengardensfarm who I had the pleasure of setting up across from @hfxbrewerymarket on Saturday. Such an easy, yummy lunch. ❤️🥪
